Located in the still bustling Hong Kong Supermarket Plaza, Nam Phuong has plenty of parking access and easy to spot from the main road. It has a nice cozy yet conservative upscale feel. Seating are well spaced apart so you don't feel crowded like a German beerhaus. Another plus side if you like VN videos, they are projected on to the large central wall so you get dinner and ... a show!!! There is a fully stocked bar on the side so if you just want to hang out with the gang after work instead, you can. The waitstaff don't hover and swing by only when you signal with the close of the menu and setting it down on the table. I ordered the special pho this time just to see how the various meat stack up here. The pho only has one size and it is on the large deeper size chocked full. Veggies are very fresh medium spread and even includes the elusive coriender leaves (ngo gai)! Broth is decent but was not piping hot so I could not properly blanch the veggies. It was little muted with only hints of anise and medium beef flavor profile. Noodles were al dente and well proportioned with gobs of the different kinds of meats on the special. Well represented is the rare filet steak slices which has a much thicker cut giving them a nice heft yet still melt in your mouth. Tendons were tenderlicious with dipping on the hoisin and siraccha sauces. The brisket contribute much to the beefiness so works well with this broth combination. The tripe is what can I say ... traditionally chewy, gives some contrasting texture I guess.
Only cash, MC, Visa, and DS accepted... awww no Amex. Nice dig, overall value 8.9 out of 10.
