Broth was flat tasting and lacking in richness. Duck pieces had very little meat and where mostly skin and bone. BBQ pork was dry and flavorless. Wontons where flavorfull and tender with a good filling/noodle ratio. Quality of condimints and vegitation where quite good. Overal not bad but not worth going out of the way for. The chinese/vietnamese buffet looked promising.

I have never understood the attraction of this place. Everytime I have eaten there, I swear I won't again but I usually breakdown because they are closer to my home. However, I can say with complete confidence that I have eaten my last meal at Pho 98.
The last time I ordered take aways from there, and believe me under NO circumstances do you want to dine in--it's a sty--the food was swimming in oil, had no flavor and made me sick--literally. I think their big push these days is a buffet-type affair, but it's really nasty and anything that was remotely Vietnamese about this slop has been 'dumbed-down' to american tastes. In fact, with the exception of the management/owners, I have never seen ANY Asian people in there, EVER. Always a bad sign.
In short, save your money and try elsewhere. Pho Hoa on Central is quite good as is Hong Viet. Patronize these folks; at leaset they have some pride in the food they prepare.

Agree w/ everything said above, this is the first pho restaurant i have been to in the Charlotte area, and the last time i will go to this one. The broth was weak, the strips of beef fatty and stringy, and the vietnamese iced coffee was a mess.

I have grown up eating good pho and I know the difference between good and bad pho, pho 98 wasn't exactly bad. I totally agree with all thats said above, but I have broken down and eaten there because its close to home, but what really got me, i was there with my sister and we were enjoying some apps, long story short, well I saw a roach on the wall and I notified the waitress and she simply said oh.. I will get it later, and we stopped right then and there eating our food!! That was my last meal ever at pho 98 and before that we had been going there for couple yrs!! but now I prefer to drive all the way to wt harris area where pho real is and I continue to eat there!!
